Flash Memory problems impacting Sametime on Blackberry
We have experienced the following issue with Sametime 8.0.1 client (build 2008.04.15) on Blackberry 4.5 server and 4.5 and 4.6 device software:
On all devices we get issues with device flash memory after a couple of days of use.
When this memory is low the following things happen:
1. The Low Memory Manager application first asks all applications to remove low priority data (for example, transitory data such as browser caches).
2. If step 1 does not recover enough free flash memory for normal operation, the Low Memory Manager application asks the applications to remove medium priority data (for example, very old messages, cached map data, and out-of-date calendar entries).
3. If step 1 and 2 do not recover enough flash memory, the Low Memory Manager application prompts the Messages application to remove email messages starting with those that are the least frequently accessed.
The main point here is that Sametime appears to fill up this part of the BB device memory quite quickly causing these issues to show after only a couple of days of use.
This has made us stop any further deployment of the Sametime client on BB, as it is not acceptable from a usability point of view.
Is this a known issue from IBM side ?
What does IBM recommend to address or improve this issue ?
